“Nila-lang”

From 2023 through 2024, Chloe explored the idea of “Nila-lang”. It is a combination of the words “lang” and “nilalang”. “Lang” is a limiting word that directly translates to “just” or “only”. “Nilalang” can mean “creature” denoting the idea of being made by a higher being. With these two concepts in mind, Chloe assessed the realities of Filipino adoptive children. Challenging the eligible and negligible experiences society perceives of their experiences.

This study was awarded a “Thesis of Excellence Award” by her college receiving a perfect score. And while the recognition of her efforts validates the physical work, no award could have ever been possible without the collaboration of the study’s participants and their stories. The culminating work is on display at the administrative building of Bahay Sibol- Home of Hope Inc. in Bulacan, Philippines, where Chloe had worked and collaborated with throughout college.
